Choirs for College Age and Adult Singers

There are two choirs for adults in the parish from which to choose. Both choirs rehearse on Wednesday evenings throughout the choir year. Each adult choir is open to singers with choral experience who wish to commit to regular participation in rehearsals and Sunday and Holy Day liturgies. These dynamic and welcoming ensembles are open and encouraging to new-comers wanting to get involved in this essential parish ministry.

The St. Cecilia Choir serves the weekly 10:00 Sunday Mass and other Holy Days throughout the Church Year. Weekly rehearsals are Wednesday evenings 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. beginning in early September through the end of May. The St. Cecilia Choir sings a great variety of sacred choral music from ancient to modern compositions.

The St. Gregory Choir serves the weekly 12:15 Sunday Mass and other Holy Days throughout the Church Year. Weekly rehearsals are Wednesday evenings 8:15 – 9:15 p.m. beginning in early September through the end of May. The St. Gregory Choir sings Gregorian Ordinaries and Propers of the Mass in Latin and a variety of Latin Motets for the  12:15 Traditional Latin Mass.

Both the St. Gregory and St. Cecilia Choirs serve the sung Masses on Holy Days throughout the year. In addition to parishioners who participate there are a small number of Choral Scholars (mainly choral music students from Furman University) who supplement the ranks of the choirs, serving as section leaders facilitating the learning of new repertoire and supplementing the vocal sonority of both ensembles.

Choirs for Children and Youth

Primary Choir – for boys and girls age K-5 – 1st Grade – Kelly Herd, Director

The Junior Choir rehearses on Wednesdays 3:30 – 4:30 early September through April and sings about once a month at the 10:00 Mass on the same schedule as the Primary Choir. Skills in choral singing, musicianship and knowledge of the Sacred Liturgy are the focus of the weekly rehearsals that kids enjoy following a brief time for exercise and an after-school snack.

Youth Choir – for boys and girls age 6th-12th Grade – Alan Reed, Director

The Youth Choir rehearses on Wednesdays 5:30 – 6:20 early September through April. Now in its fourth year, plans for this year’s choir include adding and changed boys voices to an already fine treble sound for our first mixed choir for this age group.
